4 Reasons to Use Stone Veneer

If you are planning a natural stone project for your home or outdoor space, consider the benefits of using stone veneer. Thin, natural stone veneers offers many of the same advantages of natural stone, but without many of the disadvantages. Stone veneers are becoming a popular option to get a beautiful, durable surface without the need for complete natural stones. Here are four reasons to use stone veneer in your next project.

  1. Beauty. The reason natural stone is so popular for patios, fireplaces and siding is the uncompromised beauty. Each stone is unique, giving you a customized beauty for any project you undertake.
  2. Lightweight. While natural stone is beautiful, it can be a pain to transport and put into place due to the weight. Stone veneers are lightweight in comparison, saving money on transport costs and making it easier to build your hardscape without the heavy lifting.
  3. Cost-effective. Natural stone adds value and beauty, but it can be very expensive. Stone veneers offer the same look, without the high cost. Stone veneers can save money while still creating the look you desire for your home.
  4. Durable. Even though stone veneers are thinner, they are still durable. Natural stone is scratch resistant and can last for decades, even in veneer form. You get the style and durability you want, only with less cost and strain than complete natural stones.

Using stone veneers can help you stretch your project budget while still getting the uncompromising benefits of natural stone. Visit your local quarry that offers thin stone veneers to learn more about how these beautiful stones can be used for your next stone hardscape project.

Add Class and Style to Your Home with Stone Veneers

There’s nothing like stone or brick to give your home a classical, elegant style. Unfortunately, the cost of building a home from stone is astronomical, making it very rare. If you love the look of stone homes but don’t have an unlimited budget, there is an option available which offers a fraction of the cost of true stone. Stone veneer siding can transform your ordinary home into the stone home of your dreams.

Stone Veneer Siding Options

Although there are many stone veneer siding options available, one of the most affordable and preferred for both homeowners and builders is thin, natural stone veneer. This siding is made from real stones, not manufactured. There are several benefits to using this type siding versus manufactured stone siding or thicker stone veneers.

  • Unique, real stone. Thin stone veneers use real stones so each home is unique. This prevents the patterns that emerge from using man-made stone siding, with each veneer completely unique in color and pattern.

  • Durable. Thin stone veneers are chip and scratch resistant, unlike many manufactured stone sidings. Natural stone will hold up to the elements, just as it has for thousands of years.

  • Affordable. The biggest savings with thin stone veneers is in the transportation costs. Due to their lower weight in comparison to other stone products, they cost much less to ship and require fewer structural changes to accommodate.

If you are building a new home or looking to give your existing home a new look, consider the option of using thin stone veneers for your exterior. It can give you the natural stone exterior you’ve always wanted at a fraction of the cost. Talk to your local stone supplier to discuss the stone veneers options available.

Advantages of Stone Veneers

If you are building a new home or remodeling your existing home, you need to check out thin stone veneers, one of the hottest products in the natural stone home construction materials market today.  Natural stone has long been used in high end construction because of its beauty and durability, but the cost involved usually prohibits extensive use of full sized natural stone in more conventional projects.

Thin stone veneers have the timeless classic beauty of full-depth traditional stone, but with a much lower cost and ease of installation that makes it an attractive option for applications where full sized natural stone would be too heavy or too expensive.

Thin stone is real, rough cut natural stone that is cut to a thickiness of about 3/4” to 1 1/4”.  The cost of thin cut stone is equivalent to that of thicker cut stone, but there is a tremendous savings in the shipping, construction and installation costs because thin stone weighs far less than full cut stone veneer.  Thin cut stone weighs a fraction of full cut stone – as much as 80% less.  Lower weight means shipping costs are much lower.

In addition, thin stone veneers can be set on almost any structurally sound conventional surface using standard mortar. Eliminating the need for special footings or other structural support significantly reduces the construction costs normally associated with full depth natural stone.

The reduced weight makes thin stone siding veneers much easier to work with.  An installation crew can install thin cut stone veneer in about one third to one half the time it would take to install a similar square footage of traditional stone.

Full cut stone will probably continue to be the standard in high end construction, but thin cut stone now provides the opportunity to have advantages of natural stone at a fraction of the cost.
